CONTRACTING CHECKLIST
Helpful Tip: Medicare contracting can be overwhelming. Each carrier has their own process and training that will need to be completed. Because carrier links expire, it is a good idea to start with 3 or 4 carriers requests, receive their onboarding links and complete their certifications and requirements before moving on to additional carriers. This will give you time to focus on a few carriers and complete them before links expire. Adding carriers in “blocks” (a few carriers at a time) will also make it easier for you to track your contracting progress with each carrier. Once you have completed your first “block” of carriers, come back and request more according to your needs.

Pass Your AHIP Exam
The AHIP Certification is required for all agents who wish to sell Medicare. The cost of AHIP is $175, however you can use our link to get an $50 discount (no code required).

Request Carrier Contracts
This is by far the MOST IMPORTANT step in the process. You’ve completed your agent file, now you need to request your carrier contracts.

Complete Carrier Certs
Are you ready to sell? This is a crucial step and means you have completed all of the requirements needed by the carriers to sell Medicare products for the AEP selling season.

What To Expect
After you’ve requested your contracts through the contracting link and referral code above, there are a few things to look out for in order to obtain ready to sell status and start writing business with each carrier.

Onboarding Emails From Carriers
Keep an eye on your email and spam folder (that place where all things go to disappear…. even onboarding emails!)

Certification Emails
You’re requested carriers and started receiving onboarding emails… but is that all? Not so fast!
Keep an eye out for carrier certification emails. Carriers such as Wellcare have separate platforms for completing their trainings and certifications. You’ll want to be sure you’ve completed the certifications for each carrier you have requested.
Note: Carrier certifications are required every year to maintain ready to sell status and be able to write business (and keep your current book of business).
Moving From A Different Upline?
If you’re moving from another upline and joining our team, each carrier will have specific requirements.
Q&A: How do I know if I need a release or if I need to start the notice of intent process?
If you have never been contracted or your contract was officially terminated by the carrier, you will not be required to have a release or start the notice of intent process.
If you are currently contracted under another upline, you will need a release.
If you cannot obtain a release from your current upline, you will need to start the notice of intent process.
